Cape Disappointment
It has been so wonderful to be by the Pacific ocean again! We have enjoyed some great walks on the beach - we found a wonderful cove that has lots of rocks to watch the high tide come back in. Two different working lighthouses here. There were no little creatures in the tide pools here but still fun to see the waves. One day there were gale warnings so we got to see some real splashing! Coast Guard happened to be training on the coast so it was fun to watch them 'save' a dummy from the water.
Willapa National Wildlife was a great hike up into the hills and through the thick forest.
We stopped at a working cranberry museum. So interesting to read about all the work that goes into cranberries. Fall is when they harvest so we didn't see that but the pictures were very interesting!
We stopped at a local dive that boasted of the best clam chowder served in a bread bowl- very good!
One of the two lighthouses nearby
The little birds running in and out of the tides are so fun to watch
They stay close to one another and move/fly together
So hard to see but at the top of this rock was an otter. We watched him 'play' with a crab. He let it go and it scuttled away before he slipped back in the water.
Associated with Ocean Spray
Huge fields of red - mostly leaves at this point as plants are just starting to flower
Leftovers from last year
Had to try a little cranberry smoothie
Clam Chowder in a bread bowl - heavenly
Low tide but the gale warnings are real! Wow - the wind is incredible.
Not kidding here - the wind was crazy
High Tide - with gale warnings the ocean looks totally different with the waves higher and faster. Fascinating to watch how the waves change over a few minutes time.
