Medora - Teddy Roosevelt National Park
Wow - so many photos to share here!
Coming into Medora we drove the Enchanted Highway starting at the city of Regent. The metal sculptures were created by man, Gary Greff, who was concerned with the already small town's population leaving and the city dying. He wanted a way to bring people to Regent (to encourage the economy) so he began making these fascinating sculptures and placing them along the road to attract visitors to his small town. Each one is unique but they are all HUGE!
Then it was on to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We visited the park first at night and then during the day. It changes so much from one to the other. The colors just burst overnight. There are so many herds of bison so that was great to see them coming back strong under the protection of the park. One that seemed to want to run us off the road so that was a bit intimadating! We were stopped in the truck but she (yes it was a she) kept moving towards us until she swerved at the last moment. The herds of wild horses are ancestors from Roosevelt's time when they released them after they were no longer needed and they roam freely in small groups. The landscape was beautiful and rugged.
There happened to be a small balloon fest this weekend in Medora right next to our campsite. Unfortunately the balloons were unable to launch due to weather - but it was fun to see them teether right outside our door. There were also massively huge kites.
All the figures move when the button is pushed! My favorite was the mom pushing the kids into the tub.

I would have lOVED to see this field of sunflowers in full bloom!
Just love it! If you can't read it the different areas are "umm no", "ouch", "how fast are you?", "nope", "vacation is over" and "do you have insurance?" :)
