Jekyll Island

What an incredible location! We took the Historic Tour which was well worth it to hear all the stories of the island. There were so many interesting stories about the rich and famous who vacationed here in the early 1900s as well as a lot of tragedy. The mansions were still in good shape and you can tour those in a separate tour. In 1904, Munsey’s Magazine called the Jekyll Island Club “the richest, the most exclusive, the most inaccessible club in the world.” This all ended with the start of World War II and the island was sold to the state to become a state park for everyone to enjoy. It is a beautiful place to spend a day just exploring. Not sure if it was a tourist thing or real but there was a group of men playing croquet outside the Club House.

The most popular beach, of course is the Driftwood Beach. It was almost spooky to see all the dead trees. We walked down away from the crowds near the parking lot to see the best trees and listen to the quiet on the beach.
