Edisto Island

We were excited to go to Edisto Island for 2 reasons.

First, it is not a populated area as you can see in the photos. We had lunch/walk on beach and only saw 2 other people in the distance. It was fun to see all the shells - some I haven't seen before as well as the horseshoe crabs. I guess during mating season they come up on the beach by the 100s!

Second, Botany Bay area is very protected - $470 fine for removing ANYTHING from the beach - so we felt like it would be more natural then other beaches we have visited. We carefully checked high tide and while we didn't make it for the 7am lowest tide but we were there before noon. However, the tide was definitely coming in strong! People put the whelk shells on trees on that part of the beach - not sure why. We had hoped to see this and we were disappointed about that but there were a few in the trees.

We drove the tour and got to see a lot of history of the area and FINALLY Bill spotted a fox squirrel that we have seen signs about! I think the little plant is an agave.

A wonderful but slightly chilly day at the beach!
