Fort Myers - Naples

It has been interesting in to see the areas so affected by Hurricaine Ian.  I have come to realize recovery takes a looong time AND the effects are further reaching then we understood.   For instance, going out to eat on a Saturday night with 1/2 the restaurants closed - much harder for diners AND especially staff.

The whole area is still filled with trucks of workers for electric, phones, gas, sewer, internet, as well as stores trying to replace applicances and furniture and vehicles.  The number of boats still on the land and laying sidewides in the water were shocking.  One home the wall was gone and we could see the bed and dressor from the road just like they left it. The list goes on and on.  We almost felt bad being there in the way of the all the big hauling trucks trying to move the garbage and debris on a Sunday afternoon.  There was garbage and unsafe conditions with broken glass and rubble - not even fencing around some of them.  I just hadn't thought about all those things that have to be taken care of after a big storm.

Naples was fun.  We had a good time wandering around and exploring.  It was so fun to see Marzi and the kids!  We had a lovely time at a big park with a picnic and playing with the kids.  We also got to meet Rob and Laura and the girls.  They took us out for a wonderful meal and great conversation.   Plus time with Ben and Ann - didn't get a picture this time - too much great conversations!   And a bonus to see Stef and Mark's new place in North Fort Myers.   Whew - we packed a lot into our 4 days.
