Watkins Glen

As usual we found some hidden gems in the area! We had a fun day in Corning which is called the Crystal City. It does have the big Corning factory and musuem - we didn't go there but there were shops in the area displaying plenty of glass and a glass blower which was very fun. It was esepcially cool to see fused glass pieces as I have missed doing that a lot with my MN friends with Jill's generous time and materials. What we didn't realize was that Corning is also well know for producing custom glass pieces for industry needs.

Bill got me a gorgeous glass necklace!

The town is right on the river and was pretty. We also stopped at a Farmer's market and got some squash - fall is definitely in the air today!

The next was a winery that had all sorts of dinosaurs and other creatures outside! We were not sure what they were used for but it was fun to see. It was a large piece of land with grapes and lambs and wonderful views (if it weren't raining) of the valley below. We decided not to stay for a wine tasting - other things to see.

We drove by Hector Falls which is right off the road - what a beautiful waterfall. There was another one that was just outside of town called Montour.

Our time in Watkins Glen was wonderful! We got a nice sunny day after the day of rain and the falls were blasting through. We chose the trail with 'only' 500+ steps! It wasn't too bad and the views were definitely worth every step. It was hard to chose the best ones to post as every corner had a new view. The pieces of fallen shale and the cliffs added to the experience. We also had fun going behind 2 water falls. :) We had our picnic lunch inside the truck because once we got out of the canyon - the wind was whipping!
