North Shore
The Northern Shores of Lake Superior are wonderful any time of year but especially in August where it is hot everywhere else and the shores remain comfortable. We highly recommend it!
We had a great time exploring the Parks along the North Shore. We had some great hikes - the one at Gooseberry Falls is always a favorite even with the water low this year. Tettegouche Park was fun to go from the beach all the way up to the top of the 'mountain' - so many stairs to climb but we did it. The views are fabulous.
We had a wonderful day in Grand Marais. We explored the shore, watching the boats, had the Worldest Best Donuts - we have to admit - they are so good! We took a drive up the GunFlint Trail - no moose sightings... yet. We drove up to Pincushion Mountain which is the peak of the Sawtooth Mountains. We wondered why is it called that and found out it was named after a wildfire that wiped out the mountain in the 19th century leaving only snags that looked like pins. Then we headed to Sandy's family cabin where we caught up with her life, met new tiny friends and had delicious chocolate chip cookies - thanks Mrs D!! It was a very "sweet" day!
We met our Michelle and Mike for lunch at Castle Danger Brewery in Two Harbors and talked about our upcoming trips to Glacier and Yellowtone. So fun to meet up with friends and talk about travel adventures.
I know some might judge us but we did not go to Betty's pies this time. We heard that Rustic Inn had some amazing food and pies so we tried that. The omelet was typical breakfast - Bill liked the pancakes. Then we couldn't decided on which 2 pies so we had to get 3. Yum!!
We also took a daytrip to Duluth - click here for photos for that fun city. We did walk along canal street and went into a shop or two, of course, but also explored some new (to us) areas.
My friend, Deb, came to visit with Cheryl to do some exploring for agates and treasure in the water. We had fun exporing the various beaches with them.
