New Orleans - take 2

We visited New Orleans early on when Covid first hit.  Here is our first trip there.  It was desolute and sad - more homeless folks then tourists or residents.  We decided since we were close by in Gulfport, the city really deserved a second try.  We knew that it wouldn't be at its best on a Monday morning but that's when we went.  It was fine - lots of stores open now and we even got to listen to one street band.  The cemetaries are plentiful and fascinating - unfortunately most are either locked up or you have to pay to take a tour to see them beyond the fences.   I am sure it gets more exciting at night but we just didn't feel comfortable there so we explored until mid-day and then headed on.

We went to the City Park Sculpture Garden and that was wonderful and relaxing.  It was fun to see all the sculptures even though we didn't understand them all -  the one called Traveling Light which looked like a man was being tortured by hanging from his feet to us!  But the trail along the water was a very cool walk and we enjoyed exploring.

From there we decided we needed some seafood and went to Drago's.  It did not disappoint!   We tried some grilled oysters - actually quite good.  The po-boy shrimp sandwich we shared was also good and allowed enough for the dessert of praline icre cream covered in caramel and Fireball!

Heading back we went over the 24 miles causeway bridge that spans Lake Pontchartrain - the world's longest bridge it claims.

Another view of this statue since it didn't fit well above - wow!
