Boston
We had a fun day exploring Boston and the Freedom Trail. It is interesting how so many historic places are now just part of the modern day city. For instance, the oldest building in Boston is now a Chipotle... hmm just doesn't seem right. Paul Revere's house is situated in among more modern buildings. Although now knowing the true story about Revere... it does tarnish the image a bit. He was one of many in the cog that went out to sound the alarm. And in fact, he never made it to Concord as he was captured in Lexington - although his unsung companion, Dr Prescott was able to evade capture and did sound the alarm in Concord. The old North Church situated in among 4 story apartment buildings. Qunicy Market has a large scan this and lego banners hanging from the roof. I would say it is a bit harder to imagine the historical events when the city is bustling around you.
All the cemeteries in town are startling with the paper thin headstones. Most you can't read due to age but occasionally to see someone buried there from the 1600's - crazy to imagine.
The USS Constitution was fascinating to see and go down to the 4th level. What an amazing ship. Quite a difference between the lush admirals quarters to the bunks down below the men shared.
We had to try the original Boston Cream Pie at the hotel that invented it ... deciding it is not as good in our taste buds as the more well known version - with apoligizes to the hotel! Also Bill had a Brick Red beer that you can only order on tap as you walk the freedom trail. That he liked.
We also toured Concord and Lexington. It was hard to imagine the events that followed as we walked over the Old North Bridge and those who lived nearby in the Manse Mansion watching the first shots of battle.
We also drove into Salem to see if they were decked out for Halloween - not at all. Just the usual witches and such as always. There were some extra events and lots of extra 'witches' around. We decided to drive to Marblehead coastline. It was a rainy day but still fun to see the huge houses, rocky coastline and waves.
