Peggy Sue Diner Yermo, CA
We drove 4 hours in gale force winds to Yermo, CA today... actually it wasn't too bad because it was mostly pushing us. But 50mph gusts are powerful! We decided we could not pass by the famous Peggy Sue Diner as it was just beyond the campground. It was fun to see it - no the song Peggy Sue was NOT playing over and over thank goodness. Lots of star studded autograph photos on the walls and totally 50s atmosphere including a 'mouthy' waitress! After following the 'yellow brick road' we sat in one of the 3 original booths and split a burger but had 2 pieces of pie. One was strawberry-rhubard - warmed with ice cream. The other was peanut butter banana cream. Both yummy! They also have a dinosaur park behind the building which was fun to walk through and stretch our legs a bit.
Another long drive tomorrow as we keep heading to Bryce Canyon.

Fun to see these but the wind was crazy!
Turtles were real - lol!
Of course I had to look up why Buddy sang about Peggy Sue. The story is interesting ... Jerry Allison actually was dating the young woman named Peggy Sue. Buddy Holly was preparing to record a song called Cindy Lou and Jerry persuaded him to use Peggy Sue's name as a way to impress her. The rest is history! Jerry and Peggy Sue married then divorced 3 years later but she continued to keep the connection to Buddy alive in various ways as well as writing a memoir in which she states she and Buddy were very, very good friends. Buddy's wife disagrees....
