St. Augustine
2023 - And just like that - 2022 is over and 2023 has begun bringing big changes. After a snowy, cold stay in Minnesota - I flew back to Bill in Orlando.
Then the first week of January we sold IRMA. The timing was perfect for a variety of reasons. Fortunately we both felt the time was right. I feel slightly nostalgic for our time but not at all sad to have it over. Mostly we feel grateful for the amazing freedom she brought us. But we are ready for a new freedom - a new feeling of being nimble and the ability to move around much quicker. We have places we still want to visit - but we want to move much faster from place to place.
We started by heading to St Augustine. We spent some time watching the ocean along A1A and exploring plans for what is next few months. We took a ferry over to Fort Mantanza.
We went to Flagler College - what an amazing building and such a history!
We met up with Cindy and explored the city a bit more. We have been here before 2 years ago but we wanted to come back to see the Nights of LIghts with 3 million lights! It was a fun display - not sure it was all we hoped for but still fun.
2021 - We had an awesome time continuing our exploration of the Northeastern portion of the sunshine state. We stayed in St Augustine for 2 weeks using each day for a day trip somewhere in the area. We explored all of St Augustine and the surrounding area as well as Amelia Island. We, of course, did our best at experiencing the taste as well as even doing a Chocolate factory tour. Each stop was unique in itself and added to our complete enjoyment of the area over the 15 days.
St. Augustine didn't disappoint with all the historical landmarks. So much to see here. We recommend doing the hop on - off Old Town Trolley tour. We did this several times just to get the information about the area. The guides gave some great tips on places to eat and off the beaten path locations to check out. We, of course, had to try the Fountain of Youth. A drive down the coast was fun and especially our stop at the Funky Pelican on Flagler Beach - great food!
Amelia Island was fun to explore the shops and we stopped at the Salty Pelican to eat - great food and service.
From this ~ 22 degrees....
