Jacksonville
We expected Jacksonville to be just another big city but we were pleasantly surprised with the relaxed vibe. We took a long walk along the Riverwalk. There we saw the Kismet at dock. It belongs to the owner of the Jaquars and is currently listed for sale for approximately $2 mill - give or take. It is an impressive looking yacht but does seem out of place parked in along the riverwalk. It was fun to see the railroad drawbridge go down and watch the train roll on by.
We visited Pete's Sweets mansion. We were not able to book a tour to go in back and see the candy being made but we had fun visiting the different rooms. Bill needed to try some Candy Cane soda... not terrible but it was very sweet.
Jacksonville is a city with many statues and murals. Some we thought were cool - some we really didn't understand - especially the tilted face with green goo in it's nose and eyes. The one with the people walking through the squares represents cancer survivors. I thought the one on the library with the owl was surely Hegwig from Harry Potter but no - her name is Wisdom and she holds the key to knowledge.
There was a children's park with miniature replicas of the bridges in town - that was so cute.
Leaving Jacksonville and looking back on the bridge it is crazy to see how built up the city is on that low piece of land!
We also visited the Golden Isles of Georgia and Amelia Island.
